Myth: EVs Aren’t Really Better For the Environment
Some people insist that electric cars are not actually any better for the environment than their gas-powered counterparts. In truth, EVs are not only more efficient but they also reduce your contribution to air pollution in Springboro! EVs don’t have engines, so they do not produce any tailpipe emissions.
Myth: EVs Should Not Get Wet
Have you heard that it’s dangerous for an EV to get wet? This is false! An EV’s battery and electrical systems are isolated and fully protected from water damage, so you should have zero fears about driving in the rain or even charging your EV in the rain. You can drive through puddles without worry, too, but we don’t recommend attempting to drive an EV through flood-level waters — just as we wouldn’t recommend in a gas-powered car! Remember, gas-powered cars also have a battery and electrical systems, and you likely never think twice about driving them in the rain.
Myth: You Can’t Take an EV Off-Road
As the EV market continues to grow, we’re seeing all types of vehicles offered with electric powertrains. That includes electric SUVs and trucks with off-road capabilities! Of course, you need a proper AWD or 4WD system and you should always understand the performance limits of a vehicle before taking it off-road, as some are better equipped than others for different terrain types. With the right capabilities and a route that’s carefully planned around an EV’s range, you can still go off-road in an EV.
Myth: EVs Catch Fire More Frequently
EV technology is designed to prevent thermal runaway, so you needn’t worry about an EV catching fire.
Myth: EVs Don’t Perform Well in Winter Conditions
Actually, many EVs have better weight distribution than gas-powered vehicles, so you can expect better control on slick winter roads. EVs also offer great responsiveness and precision that, when coupled with the availability of AWD, can give you greater confidence during inclement road conditions.
Myth: You Can’t Drive Out of Town in an EV
A road trip in an EV will take more careful planning than a road trip in a gas-powered vehicle, but it is definitely doable! You will need to plan your entire route based on public EV charger locations. We recommend being prudent about how long of a distance you plan between each stop, in other words, don’t plan your charging stops down the last available mile.
